ГлавнаяMy WebLinkО нас2019.10.21_WRC_SWCD_NegleyTompkins County Soil and Water Conservation District 2019 Project Highlights A presentation to the Tompkins County Water Resources Council October 21, 2019 Fingerlakes Lake Ontario Watershed Protection Alliance (FLLOWPA) Program •4 FLLOWPA funding programs in Tompkins County –Ag Best Management Practice (BMP) implementation –Non-Ag BMP implementation –Water Quality Monitoring –Soil Health Initiatives FLLOWPA Ag BMP •Roof water and barnyard runoff improvements in the Owasco watershed (Town of Groton) Nutrient laden runoff diverted to grass filter area FLLOWPA Non-Ag BMP implementation •Salmon Creek Streambank Stabilization Water Quality Monitoring •Community Science Institute •USGS Gauging Station at Brooktondale in Cooperation with the Town of Caroline Photo: http://database.communityscience.org/monitoringregions/1 Photo: USGS FLLOWPA Soil Health Inititatives •Compost BMP applications Eastern Fingerlakes Cover Crop Pilot GrantNYS Ag and Markets 490 Acres of cover crop planting commitments in Tompkins County in 2019 through this contract Hydroseeding Program •14.54 miles of roads seeded in 2019 •Broken axle has left SWCD seeder in maintenance garage for most of the fall. Tompkins County Highway seeder has filled in to fill the gap! District State Aid –Part B Funding •$6,000 is being utilized in 2019-2020 to design a pond reclamation project on Groton Elementary School property for educational space •$6,000 was utilized to aid the Town of Caroline design a bio-retention area in front of the Town Hall for a community education and demo project (installation will be completed in spring of 2020) NYSDEC Water Quality Improvement Program -Stormwater Mapping •Worked cooperatively with CCE interns to continue mapping of entire Tompkins County stormwater culvert and ditch mapping study WQIP Cayuga Inlet Sediment Assessment and Implementation Project •Working with Cornell IRIS program to georectify all Tompkins County Historical aerial photos for the county •Planning to walk stream corridors this fall/winter/spring •Coordinating with County Planning Department on potential project implementation sites. NYS Ag and Markets Programs •CAFO Waste Storage Grants –2 in Groton (Fall Creek watershed), 1 in Lansing (Salmon Creek Watershed –Close to $1 million in State funding allocated to these projects, additional landowner cost share of at least 25% added into the overall costs. –Implementation to happen in 2020 •Agricultural Non-Point Source Pollution Abatement Program –2 waste storage structures being funded in Owasco Watershed –Bidding for 1st project has begun, second project will begin in 2020 –Applications into State for barnyard runoff control project in Sixmile Creek watershed. •Climate Resilient Farming Program –1 water retention project in the sixmile creek watershed was awarded this year and will go to construction in 2020 Hydrilla •Plant monitoring expenses covered by US Fish and wildlife services contract with District •Coordinating Hydrilla Task Force conference calls and management activities with US Army Corps of Engineers for South End of Cayuga Lake •New finds and treatment at Myers Park (private marina) •Focusing on a Hydrilla Incident Command response with Task Force, Cayuga Lake Watershed Network and FingerlakesInstitute/PRISM this winter Stormwater Services •Work with 5 municipalities to provide Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) reviews on construction sites •Coordinate Stormwater Coalition meetings and reporting to NYSDEC Envirothon Program •Regional, State and National Envirothon Program •TST BOCES took second place at the regional event from Tompkins County, could not attend State competition •More teams needed from Tompkins County!!
